Economic Downturn

November 28, 2008
Here is a good one to digest. The Federal opposition parties are going to topple the Conservative government because they propose to eliminate taxpayer funding of political parties. Well folks we should be outraged, since the same opposition parties never even remotely wanted to topple the government during its previous tenure. Lets see there was climate change, economic issues, provincial transfers etc. But heck once the piggies cannot feed at the through, watch out!

We hear in the media daily about the downturn in our economy, manufacturing closures in Ontario, ever increase in the price of energy and yet what do we get from both the Provincial and Federal levels of government?

Well lets see - Mr. Harper is hobnobbing with the G8 leaders this week in a luxurious setting. And Mr. Dithers (I.e. McGuinty) is saying stay the course, we go through these cycles so lets just hang on. That's great for these political fat cats who live off our taxes and are guaranteed life time pensions. Except it does nothing to solve major issues of job displacement in Canada. There is a major shift in blue collar labour from North America to China and the primary reason is because of cheap goods PERIOD! Some newspapers and government will tell you its because we need to be more innovative. LOL! It does not matter how innovative we are, if its only costs $3 a day to make shoes in China, than where do you think the shoe company will source its production? At the other end of the spectrum, Canadian consumers should they want jobs to stay in Canada should expect to pay more for goods. Bottom line is you can't expect to shop at a big box store for dirt cheap goods and expect manufacturing to stay in Canada.

On a sidebar - My mother in law purchased some Canadian souvernirs (hats etc) on Canada day from HBC and I was flabergasted that they were all manufactured in China! We are talking about flags, hats & t-shirts all red and white with our national logos emblazed everywhere and it was all produced offshore.
